Star Wars, Planetary Science, Aliens, and Astrobiology

Delve into the fascinating world of exoplanets and astronomy in this engaging course! We'll begin by examining the fundamental principles of biology, focusing on the building blocks of life, biological diversity, and adaptation. This foundation will allow us to explore the exciting field of astrobiology and ponder the possibilities of alien life.

Get ready to apply your knowledge in a fun and creative way! We’ll use examples from the Star Wars galaxy to speculate on what alien life might be like. You'll choose a Star Wars alien to research, analyzing which of its traits mirror adaptations seen on Earth – hinting at what we might realistically discover in exoplanets.

Next, we'll journey into planetary science, exploring the formation of our solar system. We'll investigate the concept of the habitable zone and how a planet’s size influences its potential for supporting life. We’ll also critically assess the feasibility of some of the more imaginative planets from Star Wars, like the ocean world of Kamino, the binary-sun planet Tatooine, and even habitable gas giants.

To conclude, you'll have the opportunity to research and present on a Star Wars planet, analyzing its characteristics through the lens of exoplanet possibilities. Determine which features are plausible in the real universe and which stretch the boundaries of scientific possibility. This course blends scientific concepts with imaginative exploration, making learning about exoplanets, astronomy, and the search for alien life an unforgettable experience!
