Traveler's Urban Sketchbook 3: Drawing in Perspective

Discover the fundamentals of perspective drawing with this practical course! Learn one-point, two-point, and three-point perspective in a quick and easy approach, designed for immediate application to your sketches and paintings.

Unlike complex perspective tutorials, this class focuses on building a basic understanding of perspective theory and how to use it effectively. We'll cover the crucial concept of vanishing points – their placement and application – to create more realistic drawings.

The course includes a concise overview of each perspective type, discussing their uses and when to choose each one. You'll solidify your skills through eight hands-on assignments: three focused on one-point and two-point perspective, and two dedicated to three-point perspective.

Begin by drawing simple shapes alongside the instructor, understanding the "why" behind each step. Then, follow along as we create imaginary scenes in all three perspective types. For two-point and one-point perspective, we'll even venture out to draw real buildings on location, applying what you've learned. You can either replicate a provided building from the resources or explore your own surroundings!

This course emphasizes working with the basics and allowing your sketches to develop their own style. Mastering linear perspective is a key step towards creating more realistic sketches and can pave the way for aspiring painters. Whether you aim to become a painter or simply enjoy sketching, this course provides a fun and rewarding journey into the world of perspective!
