Explore the Beauty of Watercolors: A Summer Course

Welcome to my new, spontaneous summer course, "Beautiful Lilies"! This course dives into the captivating world of watercolor painting, blending it with graphic elements to unlock exciting creative possibilities.

What is Watercolor?

Watercolor is a painting technique and the artwork itself created using water-based paints. Its defining characteristics are transparency and softness of the paint layers. As the renowned French artist Eugène Delacroix stated, the transparency of paint on white paper is key to achieving luminosity and brilliance. Light passing through the paint on the white surface creates a unique glow, even in shadows, and allows for an incredible range of subtle hues and seamless color transitions.

Mastering Negative Painting

One of the fascinating techniques we'll explore is negative painting. This approach focuses on the negative space surrounding the subject, rather than directly painting the subject itself. This is particularly important in watercolor art, where artists often leave areas of the paper untouched to represent highlights, rather than using white paint as with opaque mediums. We'll learn how to effectively paint the background to define the subject.

Preserving Your Watercolor Art

Proper presentation is crucial for showcasing the beauty of watercolor paintings. Framing watercolors with a passepartout and glass offers several benefits. The glass enhances the vibrancy and color saturation of the watercolor paints. It also protects the artwork from harmful UV light. Furthermore, the passepartout's depth and wide margins, combined with a fine wooden or metal frame, create a sense of autonomy and visually separate the artwork from its surroundings.

I hope you'll enjoy the course and discover many new and inspiring techniques! – Inna
