Understanding the Book of Revelation: Beyond the Apocalypse

The Book of Revelation is a powerful and often misunderstood text. It's a vision of immense significance, yet frequently misinterpreted due to the common misconception that it solely focuses on the end of the world or the apocalypse. Interestingly, the terms "apocalypse" and "millennium" are actually absent from the book itself, despite their prevalence in related doctrines.

Let's delve into the true meaning of Revelation, starting with its prologue:

• Revelation 1:1: "The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto Him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass..." This verse immediately establishes the book's purpose: to reveal things that are about to happen.
• Revelation 1:2: "...and he signified it by his angel unto his servant John: Who bare record of the word of God, and of the testimony of Jesus Christ, and of all things that he saw." John's role is to faithfully record the divine message.
• Revelation 1:3: "Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand." This blessing encourages active engagement with the prophecy, emphasizing its immediacy.

What does Revelation really reveal?

This isn't a book designed to instill fear, but rather to offer a profound blessing. It unveils the finished work of Christ and the overarching purpose of God. This divine plan began with the fall of Adam and was fully realized around 70 AD with the removal of the Old Covenant. This pivotal event paved the way for the establishment of a "New Heaven and Earth" brought about by Christ, allowing a new order to function.
