Discover the joy of creating beautiful illustrations in your sketchbook! This art class will guide you through the process of filling your sketchbook with simple, delightful paintings, one step at a time. We'll focus on using the vibrant colors of gouache and the delicate details of watercolour pencils.

Looking for the best sketchbook for this project? A mixed media sketchbook with a paper weight of over 150gsm is ideal. However, don't worry if you don't have that on hand! You can absolutely practice these techniques in a standard cartridge paper sketchbook with a weight of 110gsm. While the paper might warp a little, it's perfectly fine – this is all about learning and experimentation!

Here's what you'll learn:

  • Gouache painting techniques: Learn how to achieve opaque, vibrant colors with gouache.
  • Watercolour pencil illustration: Master layering and blending for beautiful, detailed drawings.
  • Sketchbook techniques: Develop confidence in using your sketchbook for practice and creative exploration.
  • Paper considerations: Understand the best paper types for gouache and watercolour pencil work, and how to adapt to different paper weights.
  • Simple illustration projects: Follow along with easy-to-learn projects to build your skills and confidence.
