What is Manim?

Originally developed by Grant Sanderson for his popular 3Blue1Brown YouTube channel, Manim quickly gained traction as creators sought to replicate its distinctive and engaging animation style. Initially intended for personal use, the demand for Manim led to community development.

The Evolution of Manim:

• Shaders Branch: In late 2019, Grant Sanderson began working on significantly faster OpenGL rendering in a dedicated branch.
• Community Edition: In mid-2020, a dedicated group of developers forked the shaders branch, resulting in the robust and actively maintained community edition of Manim – the version detailed here.
• ManimGL: Early in 2021, Grant merged the enhanced shaders branch back into the main repository, establishing it as the default – now known as ManimGL.
• ManimCairo: The older version, predating the shaders branch merge, is sometimes referred to as ManimCairo. It's primarily useful for rendering Grant's older videos locally. You can find it in the cairo-backend branch of his GitHub repository.
