QGIS for Dam Evaluation: A Practical Course
This course focuses specifically on the QGIS component of the comprehensive "Dam Evaluation with QGIS, Civil3D, and Excel" course. Learn practical techniques for conducting a topographic evaluation for dam projects. This hands-on course covers:
- Hydrology - Watershed Selection: Understand how to evaluate nearby rivers for dam projects, considering factors like distance, topography, and drainage area to maximize water supply for irrigation or consumption. Learn to identify the optimal water source for your dam project.
- Cartography - Digital Elevation Models (DEMs): Gain expertise in utilizing readily available online topographic data – a crucial resource for various engineering applications. Discover how to access and leverage valuable cartographic information.
- Data Manipulation - Working Area Clipping: Master QGIS tools for efficiently limiting the analysis area to the specific project site within a Digital Elevation Model (DEM). Learn to streamline your workflow and focus on relevant data.
Beyond these core procedures, you'll gain proficiency in key QGIS tools essential for civil engineering. All activities are designed to be practical, allowing you to learn by doing and build a solid foundation in QGIS for dam evaluation and other applications.
About the Instructor
I am a Civil Engineer with a passion for water resource engineering, specializing in the assessment, design, and supervision of hydrological, hydraulic, and sanitation projects. Currently pursuing a PhD in Water Resources Engineering at Oregon State University. My background includes experience as Head of Applied Hydrology at INAPA, and teaching hydraulic topics.
My academic journey includes a Master's in Construction Administration with a thesis focused on hydrosanitary systems in towers, solidifying my focus on water engineering. I hold a Master's in Water Engineering and Management (MAGUA) from the European School of Engineering. I have extensive professional experience, from small-scale designs to complex dam project evaluations, gained through employment, public service, and as a partner at TESA Consultores and MA Ingenieros.
