Hairstyles 101: Draw and Colour Hair for Character Design

Unlock the secrets to drawing compelling hair for your characters! Many artists find hair a challenging element, but in this course, we'll tackle hairstyle design from a character design and illustration perspective. Learn a simple, step-by-step process to plan hairstyles based on your character's personality, then master sketching and cleaning up your lineart.

Discover effective coloring techniques and final touches to make your character's haircut truly stand out – without aiming for hyper-realistic portraits.

This class is ideal for beginners diving into character design, as well as advanced artists looking to explore a new painting technique or expand their artistic horizons.

You'll need a digital painting software (I use Photoshop CC 2017 – link to trial version) and a graphic tablet (I use a Wacom Cintiq 22HD, but affordable options start around $70). Alternatively, you can follow the process using pen and paper – the most important thing is the creative idea!

New & Improved: Based on feedback from my previous classes ("Turn a Photo into a Cartoony Artwork (in 3 easy steps!)" and "Turn a Photo into a Cartoony Artwork with Procreate App!"), this course includes two dedicated videos on shading and lighting techniques for a more in-depth understanding.
