Gouache Painting for Beginners: Winter Landscape

Discover the wonderful world of gouache painting! This course unlocks the secrets of this versatile medium, often called opaque watercolor, boasting a higher pigment concentration for richer, more vibrant results. Learn how to harness the power of gouache – a fast-drying paint with a beautiful matte finish that can be reactivated with water, offering flexibility and control.

You'll find that gouache works beautifully with the same tools you use for watercolor, making the transition easy. However, it's important to use heavyweight paper to support the thicker paint and water, preventing warping and tearing. Explore the differences between hot-pressed paper (smooth finish) and cold-pressed paper (textured surface) and how they affect your artwork.

One of the best aspects of gouache is its opacity, allowing you to confidently work from dark to light or light to dark. Experiment with varying water levels to achieve a creamy consistency and unlock stunning blending capabilities. Gouache colors blend exceptionally well and are generally more vibrant than traditional watercolors, though some shades may appear slightly darker when dry.

In this course, you will master:
