Food Illustration: Sushi in Ink and Watercolor. A Sketchbook Practice

Discover the art of food illustration with sushi sketching! Learn to capture the beauty of Japanese cuisine in your sketchbook using ink and watercolor.

Hello! I'm Elisabetta, a watercolor artist passionate about food illustration, and I'm thrilled to guide you through this fun and inspiring class. Sushi offers endless creative possibilities, and this project is a fantastic way to hone your skills.

In this step-by-step class, we'll create a beautiful sushi board together. Don't be intimidated – even though it looks complex, we'll break it down into manageable steps. This project is incredibly rewarding and perfect for building your food illustration portfolio.

Here's what you'll learn:

• Simplify complex reference images: Master techniques for simplifying intricate details for easier painting.
• Layering for depth: Build dimension in your artwork with effective layering.
• Bold shadowing: Create a sense of realism and make your sushi visually appealing with consistent, bold shadows.
• Color mixing: Learn to mix colors to achieve subtle variations and add visual interest.
• Sketchy realism: Develop a style that blends sketchiness with believable food illustration.
• Textural techniques: Explore dry brush and other techniques to add realistic texture to your food paintings.

This sushi painting class is ideal for both beginners and intermediate artists looking to expand their skills. It's a natural progression from my popular "Sketch a Japanese Storefront" class.

The supplies needed for this sushi illustration project are simple and affordable – you'll find a comprehensive list in the project section.
