Why Pastel Pencils?

With over 30 years of experience, I've discovered that pastel pencils are remarkably easy to learn! This versatile art medium offers incredible results with minimal effort. By the end of this course, you'll not only have completed 3 amazing pet portraits but will also be confident in applying your new skills to create your own wild animal paintings from photographs.

Essential Materials:

You'll only need four key pastel pencils to achieve stunning effects! Feel free to experiment with your own color choices. We'll be using:

• Faber-Castell PITT Pastel Pencils: 101 White, 270 Warm Grey, 250 Ivory Black
• Cretacolor Pastel Pencils: 229 Brown Gray

Pastel Paper:

We recommend a Dark Grey Coloured Pastelmat paper (approximately A4/US Letter size) with a unique, rough "sandpaper" texture – ideal for pastel work. If you can't find this, UART 800 Grade Paper is a great alternative.

Simplified Drawing Process:

To make the process easy and enjoyable, I provide outline drawings for each portrait. Simply trace these onto your paper using a white transfer sheet like Tracedown for clear guidelines on the light grey paper.

Step-by-Step Video Instructions:

I guide you through each stage of the process with clear, step-by-step video instructions. You'll learn the techniques behind creating beautiful animal portraits and develop the skills to produce artwork you'll be proud to display.
