Core Confucian Values:

• Ren (仁): Often translated as "benevolence" or "humaneness," Ren emphasizes fulfilling one's responsibilities to others. Confucius defined it as "克己复礼以为仁“ (restraining oneself to follow ritual) and "己所不欲,勿施于人" (Do not impose on others what you yourself do not desire).
• Yi (义): Represents righteousness and acting in accordance with what is morally right and beneficial for the greater good. ("见利思义,见危授命” - When you see profit, think of righteousness; when you encounter danger, do not be afraid to sacrifice your life for a noble cause).
• Li (礼): Encompasses rituals, social institutions, and etiquette governing daily behavior. Confucius emphasized cultivating Li through the actions of virtuous leaders.

Confucius: The Transmitter, Not the Creator

Confucius emphasized the importance of learning and self-cultivation, believing in the innate goodness of human nature ("人之初,性本善"). He believed that education and influence shape individuals. His famous quote, "At fifteen my heart was set on learning; at thirty I stood firm; at forty I had no more doubts; at fifty I knew the mandate of heaven; at sixty my ear was obedient; at seventy I could follow my heart's desire without transgressing the norm," highlights the lifelong pursuit of wisdom.

Confucianism & Governance:

Confucius advocated for a government based on ethical principles, rituals, education, and the moral example of the ruler, rather than coercion.
