Cloud Data Warehouse Concepts

Cloud computing is a dominant force in today's technology landscape, with searches for "the cloud" exceeding 48 million daily. While cloud computing and Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) have been prevalent in both professional and personal settings through various applications, cloud data warehousing has recently gained significant traction as a compelling alternative to traditional, on-premises data warehousing solutions.

When embarking on a data warehouse (DW) journey, the initial decision often revolves around choosing between an on-premise DW and a cloud-based DW. Many newcomers are drawn to the cloud due to its speed, ease of use, and flexible pay-as-you-go pricing. The scalability and rapid deployment offered by cloud solutions are particularly attractive.

However, it's important to recognize that the cloud isn't a universal solution for all data warehousing requirements. Organizations may still opt for on-premise solutions for various reasons. Many projects continue to rely on and enhance traditional data warehouses, and teams frequently grapple with challenges related to diverse data sources, escalating data volumes, and evolving business and analytics demands, especially concerning unstructured data formats.

This course is designed to guide you through the fundamentals of cloud data warehousing. We'll take a gradual, step-by-step approach to ensure a thorough understanding of what a cloud data warehouse truly is. We'll leverage real-world examples from applications like Facebook, Netflix, and Google Maps to illustrate key concepts and enhance your learning experience. You'll gain valuable insights into how cloud data warehousing can empower your organization to unlock the full potential of its data.
