Stage 1: Self-Modelling – Understanding Your Own Worldview

We each operate within a unique model of the world, shaped by our culture, upbringing, education, experiences, and beliefs. These internal representations – whether sensory, verbal, metaphorical, or symbolic – heavily influence how we perceive and react to reality. Often, we're unaware of the representations driving our responses.

Becoming aware of these internal models is key. By understanding how they function, you can consciously adjust them. Dissatisfaction might stem from outdated or limiting representations, which can be updated and replaced with more empowering ones. This stage is about self-awareness and personal growth.

Stage 2: Modelling Others’ Perspectives

Recognize that others perceive the world differently. We often misinterpret behavior by projecting our own representations onto them, without understanding their values or motivations. Systemic Modelling offers a way to gain fresh insights by asking thoughtful questions. This process helps both you and the other person uncover their underlying beliefs, values, and patterns.

Stage 3: Building Rapport & Clear Communication

This stage focuses on intentionally adjusting your own patterns (beliefs, behaviors, representations) to foster clearer communication. Systemic Modelling emphasizes reducing contempt, blame, and increasing curiosity and respect – both for yourself and others. This process helps to differentiate between your own patterns and those you are inferring from others.
