Bible Doctrines #7: The Sabbath and God’s End-Time Rest

Discover the enduring significance of the Sabbath through a deep dive into Scripture. This course unpacks one of the Bible's most often misunderstood yet profoundly rewarding teachings. Explore how the Sabbath, far from being a relic of the past, offers a powerful and relevant gift for today.

We begin at the very beginning – creation – examining how God's own rest and blessing on the seventh day (Genesis 2) establishes the Sabbath as a universal principle, predating the nation of Israel. Trace its development through the Decalogue (Exodus 20) and the prophetic writings of figures like Ezekiel and Isaiah, revealing its role as a sign of God's sanctifying presence and a lasting covenant marker.

Understand Jesus's perspective on the Sabbath: His faithful observance, his declaration that it was "made for man," and his assertion of authority as "Lord of the Sabbath." We'll also examine the early church's continued practice of Sabbath worship as demonstrated in the book of Acts.

This course doesn't shy away from challenging passages. We'll thoughtfully analyze texts like Colossians 2, Romans 14, Acts 20, and Hebrews 9, using careful examination of language, structure, and context to arrive at well-reasoned conclusions.

Finally, explore the Sabbath's future role in prophecy, looking at Revelation 14's call to worship the Creator and Isaiah 66's vision of future Sabbath observance in the new earth.

This practical and biblically grounded class will equip you to:

• Clearly explain the meaning and importance of the Sabbath.
• Carefully defend its significance against common objections.
• Joyfully live the Sabbath as a gift of rest and spiritual renewal, standing firm in truth.
