Master the Fundamentals of Haircutting: A Comprehensive Workshop

This workshop provides the essential theoretical knowledge for aspiring hairstylists, starting with the very basics of haircutting. We'll guide you through our effective teaching methods and demonstrate how to maximize your learning experience with our training courses.

Understanding Hair Shape & Workflow

Discover the 4 basic hair shapes – a crucial element for recognizing length arrangements and streamlining your haircutting workflow. A successful haircut relies on a structured approach:

  • Division: Strategic sectioning for precise cutting.
  • Head Position: Optimal positioning for consistent results.
  • Sectioning: Creating manageable sections of hair.
  • Combing Direction: Using comb angles for controlled cutting.
  • Combing Angle: The importance of angle for precise cuts.
  • Finger Position: Guiding your fingers for accurate length.
  • Cutting Line: Defining the final shape of the haircut.

Essential Equipment & Preparation

For optimal learning, you'll need:

  • Tripod: For stable camera recording.
  • Training Heads: (Unit 1-10) – Develop your skills on realistic practice heads.
  • Additional Training Heads: For advanced practice.

Important Tip: Always watch each haircut demonstration in its entirety before attempting to cut. Pay close attention to every detail. Begin with careful observation and then proceed step-by-step. A smartphone holder for your head stand is highly recommended for recording your progress.

Advanced Layering Techniques

  • Unit 7: Increased Layers & Reverse Layering (Training Head 2)

Learn to create dynamic volume with increased layers and reverse layering. Begin with a cross-parting and horizontal division in the nape area. Start cutting a convex shape in the neck area, gradually increasing the curvature towards the sides. Use 45° diagonal sections, right-angled combing, and a parallel finger position.

  • Unit 8: Asymmetrical Reverse Layering (Training Head 2)

Master asymmetrical reverse layering. Establish a horizontal contour line and a side parting. Divide the hair at a 45° angle to the parting, maintaining a right-angled combing direction and a 45° lift-off angle on the larger side. For the smaller side, use steeper sections to avoid overly dramatic layers. Comb the hair forward parallel to the side parting, positioning fingers parallel to the steep section, and overlaying hair to above the nose tip.

  • Unit 9: Horizontal Reverse Layering (Training Head 2)

The final variation of reverse layering, building on the techniques learned in Unit 8. Create a horizontal contour line. Part the hair down the middle and begin with concave sections from the center. Work one side at a time. Comb the hair straight forward to the stationary section line, using a 45° combing angle. Pull the hair on the sides steeply upwards for added length. Round off the fullness at the back of the head for a smoother finish.

  • Unit 10: Uniform Layers (Training Head 1)

Uniform layering is often used selectively. This technique focuses on uniform layers in the inner areas, contrasting with graduated layers on the exterior. Work in a pivotal pattern, ensuring a perpendicular combing direction along the head's curve and a 90° combing angle. Ideally, keep your fingers slightly rounded. Divide the neck and side sections vertically.
