It's commendable that you're taking on the important work of understanding power and privilege and becoming a lifelong ally. Recent global events like the Black Lives Matter movement, the #MeToo movement, and political uprisings highlight the urgent need for learning and growth in this area.

I'm Aurélie Salvaire, a French facilitator based in Barcelona, and founder of Shiftbalance. I've spent years leading diversity and inclusion training programs worldwide, from Europe to the Middle East, South Asia, and Latin America.

This course will guide you through a deep dive into understanding the systems that shape our world. We'll begin by analyzing:

• The System: How did current power dynamics develop? We'll explore how power and privilege manifest in everyday life and are embedded in institutions – from language and architecture to education and finances.
• Impact of Oppression: We'll examine the effects of microaggressions and macroaggressions on marginalized communities, focusing on their impact on well-being, self-esteem, mental health, and economic opportunities.
• Systemic Responses: We'll investigate how the system reacts when challenged, providing a comprehensive understanding of its mechanisms.

Building on this foundational knowledge, we'll then explore practical ways to become an effective ally, both personally and systemically. This includes actionable strategies for fostering inclusion and promoting equity.

This journey requires courage and commitment, but I firmly believe it's crucial for creating a more peaceful and harmonious future. By working together, we can contribute to a more just and balanced world that benefits everyone.
